American Heritage is on FM 1788 between Midland and Odessa. Our mailing address is Midland, but Odessa families have been part of American Heritage for years.

About half of the people buried at American Heritage are native or longtime Odessa residents. Odessa is more than a city we serve. Odessa families are part of this cemetery and part of our history.

What happens when someone dies in Odessa?

You can call us before you have made any decisions.

If your loved one is at a hospital, hospice or other facility, tell the staff that you want American Heritage Cemetery, Funeral Home & Crematory. The facility or appropriate authority will contact us when your loved one can be released into our care.

We coordinate with them and tell you what comes next. You do not have to arrange the release yourself.

The process is the same for an Odessa family as it is for a Midland family.

Funeral and memorial services for Odessa families

A service may be held in our chapel, at your church or place of worship, or graveside at American Heritage Cemetery. Families may choose burial or cremation, with a service before or afterward.

You do not need to know which option you want before you call us. We can help with as little or as much as you want.

Our funeral home, cemetery and crematory are together on one campus, so families using more than one of those services work with the same local team.

Cemetery, burial and memorialization

American Heritage Cemetery covers more than 30 acres on FM 1788.

Garden of Peace is our general-availability garden. A grave there is $3,500, or $4,000 for perimeter property. We also have veteran cemetery property, cremation graves, columbarium niches and Babyland for infant burial.

What does a funeral cost?

We publish our prices so you can see what things cost before you have to ask.

A traditional funeral service is $6,685, before casket and cemetery costs. Direct cremation is $1,895. A grave in Garden of Peace is $3,500, or $4,000 for perimeter property.

Those are examples, not a total for every arrangement. Merchandise, cemetery property, service timing and other choices change what a family pays.

What if our family chooses cremation?

Cremation takes place on our campus. Your loved one does not need to be transferred to an outside crematory after entering our care.

Choosing cremation does not decide whether your family can have a funeral or memorial service. Those are separate choices, and we can talk through all of them with you.

Care for veterans and their families

We help families request military funeral honors and identify veterans benefits that may apply.

American Heritage also has veteran cemetery property in Garden of Calvary. Our cemetery rules for Garden of Calvary are separate from the federal rules the VA uses to determine benefits.

Support after the loss of an infant or child
