If your baby has died

At a hospital. Tell the staff you want American Heritage. We coordinate directly with them from there. You do not have to arrange anything with the hospital yourself.

At home, with no medical professional present. Call 911 first. Then call us.

Stillborn at home. Call us first. In many cases we can take your baby directly into our care, and we will confirm the next step with you.

You can call before you have made any other decision. If you are not able to come in, the paperwork can be signed remotely.

What we can keep for you

Ask us about footprints, handprints, or a lock of hair. We will always try.

Clothing and blankets are returned to you when possible.

There is no charge

For babies under one year of age, including babies who are stillborn, we do not charge for the basic services of our funeral director and staff, or for the funeral ceremony. We donate a simple casket or urn, and a grave space in Babyland. There is no charge for cremation.

Costs that do apply: an upgraded casket or urn, a cemetery space outside Babyland, taking our staff off-site for a service held somewhere else, and grave markers.

“Bekah and I chose this deliberately. We do not ask a family for money for the care we provide at no charge.”

David Cole, co-owner

The service

The service can be held in our chapel. If you have no minister of your own, we can arrange an officiant. If you would like a graveside service instead, or no service at all, that is your decision to make and you can change it.

We can help you write the obituary, or edit what you have already written.

Babyland

Babyland is a section of our cemetery set aside for babies. A grave space there is donated. A space outside Babyland is charged.

Children under twelve

For children under twelve years of age, the basic services fee is reduced by half.

For a child twelve or older we do not have a set policy. Call us and we will talk it through with you.

If your family asks to pay for something

Some families ask to pay for something anyway.

There are graves in our cemetery without markers, because a family could not afford one at the time. If you would like to give something, we will help you place a marker on one of them.
