William Marcus Dingler

William Marcus (Bill) Dingler III, 79, passed away on the afternoon of September 11, in his home surrounded by his loving family. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 14, at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of the First Baptist Church in Midland, Texas. Bill was born on July 31, 1937 in Gresham, Texas. In the early 50’s, his family moved to Pecos, Texas to farm cotton and world-famous Pecos Cantaloupes. He graduated from Pecos High School in 1956. He married Sondra Kaye (Sonnye) Bell on June 5, 1958. They were married 58 years. His life was characterized by his ability to adapt to whatever circumstance life brought him. He began his early years as a farmer, which he loved, but throughout the years, he provided for his family in a myriad of occupations. He sold insurance, drove a big rig, packed cantaloupes all over South Texas, Arizona and California, spent 17 years as an assistant supervisor of a gas plant in Barstow, Texas, and ended his career as a contractor. He owned and operated Marble Unlimited for the last 25 years of his career. In each of his occupations, he was trustworthy and respected among his coworkers and clients. Bill accepted Christ as his personal Savior while suffering with kidney failure at the age of 10. He told of his paternal grandmother coming to live with his family and that she would sit beside his bed and read the Bible to him and pray. He said that during that extended illness, Jesus saved his life and his soul. He served as a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Pecos, Odessa, and Midland. Bill enjoyed life. He will be remembered as an avid fan of each of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he loved deeply. He learned to snow ski in his late 40’s and tried to get in as many “runs” as he could during his time on the slopes with family. He and his bride, Sonnye, traveled in the past 15 years to see much of the world. Together, they shared many wonderful memories and were privileged to see the beauty of much of God’s creation together. He is survived by the love of his life, Sonnye Dingler; a daughter, Kim Doan and her husband, Kevin of Midland; a son, William Marcus (Marc) Dingler IV and his wife, Kari of Midland; grandsons, Kyle Doan, Marcus Dingler, Jonathan Dingler; granddaughters, Kendal Russo, her husband, Josh, Kalen Doan, and Rachel Dingler; and three great-granddaughters, Elliana, Mila, and Sofia Russo. Several cousins, nephews, and nieces also survive him. The family would especially like to thank his nephews, David Vinson for his love and care and Clifford Vinson for all the hours of “Pitch”.
