Nina Jean Britt

Nina Jean Britt passed away on May 26, 2021 at her home in Midland, Texas. She was born on December 1, 1931 to Roe and Neva Scott in San Diego, California. Nina excelled in high school making all A's and at 16 did some modeling. She was a perfectionist and every task she began she completed well. The California girl was brought to Texas in 1954 by her husband Jack. There they raised two daughters, Karen Glidden and Linda Kahler. Always impeccably dressed, Nina would not leave the house until every hair was in place. In their early years of marriage, Nina and Jack enjoyed horseback riding, boat riding, and square dancing together. Nina later enjoyed painting and needlepoint. Nina worked as church secretary for awhile and then as bookkeeper for Jack's construction business. She enjoyed traveling and a trip to Jamaica was one of her favorite memories. In retirement Nina learned from her daughter Karen a love for gardening. She enjoyed seeing the beauty of her flower gardens and working in them as she was able. In 2011 Nina moved next door to Karen and her husband, Dave. She enjoyed visits with them yet her biggest joys were visits from their dog, Barkley. She would rush to get some treats to throw for Barkley to catch. She would tell him to "go long" and clap for 15 minutes each time he was successful at catching the treat before it fell to the ground. He would often settle into her lap and she would rock him. They were definitely big pals. In August of 2020 Nina moved to Midland Texas to be near her younger daughter, Linda. They lived 5 minutes apart which allowed them lots of time to visit. Their favorite pastime was playing Scrabble on the Xbox. Since neither of them were avid Scrabble players they enjoyed playing as a team against the computer. Nina got a big kick when they beat the computer and across the screen were big letters saying "YOU WON!" Linda would do a victory dance and they celebrated their win together. Another tradition they established were routine visits to the drive through line for smoothies on the way home from various appointments. Nina left this earth on May 26, 2021 and is now resting in the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ. She is survived by two daughters, Karen Glidden of McKinney and Linda Kahler of Midland; two grandchildren, Aaron Kahler (Lindsay) and Caribe Smith (Mike); and five great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roe E. Scott and Neva L. Ausley. The family wishes to thank Hospice of Midland for their wonderful care and support during Nina's illness and passing. And much gratitude to our good friend Mary Carrasco for her kind and compassionate care. A small memorial service was held on June 1 st .
