Pedro Montantes Munoz

Pedro Montantes Mu�oz, 78, of Andrews, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas. Pedro was born on January 25, 1948, in Villa Union, Coahuila, Mexico, to Juan Montantes Hernandez and Juana Mu�oz Ramirez. He married his beloved wife, Rosa Elba Astorga Sosa, on August 28, 1976, in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, hard work, and love. Pedro was a true cowboy at heart - a proud jinete who loved horse races, jaripeos, rodeos, and cabalgatas in Mexico. He cared deeply for the four horses he raised and treasured all his animals, including the chickens and roosters he lovingly cared for throughout his life. Losing any of his animals would deeply saddened him because they were truly part of his family. A hardworking man with a generous spirit, Pedro found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life. He loved spending time with all his family and a close cousin Enriqueta Franco Mu�oz playing the Mexican card game conquian. He took great pride in his yard, trees, and garden, nurturing everything he planted with patience and care. Thanks to his green thumb and dedication, his garden flourished with pumpkins, squash, jalapenos, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, cantaloupes, watermelon, and garlic. He especially enjoyed helping his daughter-in-law tend to her rose bushes. Most days, Pedro could be found outdoors - planting, weeding, trimming trees, cleaning the yard, or simply soaking up the sunshine. He loved family gatherings and helping his sons cook outdoors. He enjoyed good food, especially a hearty, meat-based meal like steak, grilled chicken, and chicharrones. He also loved dancing to musica Nortena. Above all else, Pedro cherished his family. He was a loving husband, devoted father and father-in-law, and an especially proud grandfather and great-grandfather. In his final years, one of his greatest joys was spending time with his great-grandchildren. He was often found smiling beside one of his youngest great-grandsons, Nicholas Eli. His family finds comfort knowing Heaven gained another angel, and they ask that he shine his immense light on the upcoming birth of his great-granddaughter, Eliana Sofia. Pedro was a hardworking man whose sacrifices and life lessons will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him. He is survived by his devoted wife, Rosa Elba Astorga Sosa de Montantes; his sons, Lorenzo Montantes, Pedro Alberto Montantes, Sergio Yovani and Monica Montantes, and Javier Aldemar and Ludivina Montantes; his daughters, Leticia Reyes, Norma Linda Montantes, and Martha Lisa Montantes Martinez; his brothers, Juan Jaime Montantes Mu�oz and Jesus Maria Leija Mu�oz; as well as 34 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan Montantes Hernandez and Juana Mu�oz Ramirez; his brother, Jose Jaime Leija Mu�oz; his sisters, Maria Luisa Montantes Mu�oz and Bela Amparo Montantes Mu�oz; and his great grandson Tony Ray Ramirez. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 2:00 PM at American Heritage Funeral Home.
