Services to celebrate the life of Dr. Michael F. Chavez will be held at 11 a.m. (Central Time) on Dec. 10 at American Heritage Funeral Home located at 4100 N. FM 1788 Midland, Texas. Michael F. Chavez went to be with the Lord on Nov. 21, 2022. He passed at home in Midland Texas, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 11, 1973 to Pilar and Celia (Sally) Chavez in Ogallala, Nebraska. Michael lived in Pecos Texas, where he graduated high school, before moving to Hobbs New Mexico. Michael married the love of his life, Heather (Cummings) Chavez on Feb. 28 1994. They met while working at Hobbs Healthcare Center, where Michael worked as a nurse's aid while going to college and Heather as an activities assistant. Not long after their marriage, their first child Michael Justin Chavez was born. A few years later their daughter Ramie Michelle Chavez was born. Family was important to Michael, and he believed in leading by example. He wanted his children to value education and so he went on to acquire an associates degree in Arts from New Mexico Junior College, a bachelors in psychology from University of the Southwest, a Masters-degree in counseling at the College of the Southwest, a doctorate-degree in educational administration at New Mexico State University and a MBA in business analytics from Syracuse University. Through the years Michael worked with many students in many areas of the United States. In Hobbs he made an impact on young lives working for the Upward Bound Program. He loved to work in areas that allowed him to help underprivileged students. Michael held positions in higher education administration that involved student success and enrollment management. Michael was a member of Stonegate Fellowship in Midland, where he also accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and was baptized."For God so loved the world, He gave his only begotten son, that whoever believe in Him, shall not perish but have ever lasting life," John 3:16. "The Lord remains faithful forever," Psalms 146:6. Michael also valued serving in his community. He served in the following boards and commissions: West Texas Consortium, The Texas Gulf Coast Hispanic Chamber, Montgomery County Diversity Council, United Way Self Sufficient Board Member, Hispanic Culture Center, San Antonio Educational Partnership, Education Foundation Board, Stuff-A-Bus, Toys for Tots and New Mexico Toss No Mas. Michael also gave multiple presentations around the United States and was also multi-published in peer reviewed journals. He was recognized for his work on The Future of Edtech Marketing Looks Like the Netflix Algorithm Education, Data Science Playbook and Conquer digital marketing with data. Michael loved his family and he greatly enjoyed days at the beach in Galveston surrounded by them. He loved to root for the Dallas Cowboys, even in the losing seasons. He will be greatly missed by all those who loved him, and his loved ones take solace knowing he is with the Lord and no longer suffering. Michael was preceded in death by his grand-parents Melchor and Margarita Chavez, Ursolo and Josefa Fuentes, his father, Pilar Chavez Sr. and his brother Pilar Chavez Jr. He is survived by his wife of the home, Heather Chavez, his son Michael Justin Chavez, his daughter Ramie Michelle Chavez, his mother Sally Chavez, sisters and spouses Michelle Tavarez, Melinda Morillo and husband Roel Morillo , Roxanne Chavez-Garcia and husband Joe Garcia and Elizabeth Chavez. He is also survived by a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, tias and tios who all adored him.
