Nicandro G. Benavides

Nicandro Benavides, 72, of Odessa, TX, passed away peacefully at home on October 12, 2024, surrounded by family. He was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather. Nicandro was born on August 11, 1952, in San Carlos, Chihuahua, Mexico. He grew up in a large multi-generational family, including his three brothers and his two sisters. He went to college in Chihuahua, Chihuahua and studied civil engineering and topography. After meeting his wife, they moved to Texas, and Nicandro began his career in the oil & gas industry. Throughout his career he had opportunities to work in different places, including Puebla (central Mexico), Houston, Venezuela, Villahermosa (southeastern Mexico), and Aruba. He loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren, and playing card games and dominoes with them. He enjoyed listening to different kinds of music, watching the news and discussing current events. Nicandro was a highly intelligent individual like a human encyclopedia. He enjoyed traveling and visiting interesting places, but he also enjoyed camping and hiking, especially in Fort Davis. Cooking and grilling for his family brought him joy. As a very handy person, you could often find him doing house projects, woodworking or fixing things. Oftentimes if he left the house, it was to go on a hunt for scratch-offs and quick pick lotto tickets. His favorite team was the Mexico national soccer team (Vamos Mexico!) and enjoyed yelling at the TV while watching Liga MX soccer on TV. Above all, Nicandro was a very positive person. Always very funny and witty, cracking jokes anytime anyone would listen. Although he suffered several chronic illnesses for a long time, he never complained, and he certainly never gave up on life. Nicandro is survived by his wife, Maria Dolores R. Benavides; two daughters, Corina Benavides Castillo (Sonny) and Mercedes Benavides Flores (Marco); son Alan Benavides (Nancy), and seven grandchildren: Viviana Salazar, Erica Salazar, Meagan Castillo, Cristian Flores, Javier Flores, Ava Benavides, and Mateo Benavides. He also leaves behind his three siblings, Genaro Benavides (Marcela), Soledad Benavides, and Agripina Benavides, as well as his great- grandchildren, Beau Bernal and Saylor Bernal. He is preceded in death by his parents, Andres and Reyes (Galindo) Benavides, and two brothers, Raul Benavides and Ruben Benavides. Visitation will be on Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 2pm - 8pm at American Heritage Cemetery and Funeral Home located at 4100 N FM 1788, Midland, Texas 79707. A rosary will be held from 6pm-8pm following the visitation. Mass will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024, at 2pm at St. Mary's Catholic Church located at 612 E. 18th Street, Odessa, Texas 79761. Pallbearers are: Sonny Castillo, Marco Flores, Cristian Flores, Javier Flores, Ivan Alvarado, and Carlitos "el campeon" Molinar. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to everyone who has offered love, support, and prayers during this difficult time. Your kindness and compassion have provided much-needed comfort and strength, and for that, we are deeply grateful.
