Neva Faye Doan

Neva Faye Doan, 83, of Midland, Texas passed away July 4th, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family and friends. Neva was born January 12, 1934 to Laura and Grady Bishop in Noodle, Texas at their home. She graduated high school from Merkel, Texas and met the love of her life, Don Doan. They were married in 1952. Don and Neva moved to Pecos, Texas in 1965, where they opened, owned and operated a Gibson’s Discount Center. In 1982, they retired and moved to Odessa, Texas. Retirement did not keep “Nana” entertained. She started working at the Sandwichery in Odessa 1988 and faithfully worked there for the next 28 years. She made many friends and cheerfully served customers during these years. Nana had a passion for people, especially family and friends. This has been returned by the outpouring of love that has been shown to her and her family. One could always find her whipping up something “fit-to-eat” in the kitchen; some of her signature dishes included: macaroni and cheese, banana puddin’, chicken fried steak and don’t forget the sweet tea. Nana was a fierce competitor: whether it was in her Odessa bowling league where she competed until the age of 81, beating any opponent in Yahtzee, playing Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune daily or cheering on any of her kids or grandkids in their numerous sporting activities. Neva is proceeded in death by her husband Donna Dean Doan and parents Laura and Grady Bishop. She is survived by a brother, Omer Bishop of Midland; a daughter, Dianne Hesseltine and husband Len of Spring, Texas; a son, Steve Doan and wife Rhonda of Odessa; a son, Kevin Doan and wife Kim of Midland; granddaughters, Ashley Karpinski and husband T.C., Tatum Doan, Kendal Russo and husband Josh, Kalen Doan; grandsons, Kyle Doan, Tyler Doan; and six great- grandchildren, Blake and Kenzie Karpinski; Elliana, Mila and Sophia Russo; and Hendrix Doan. Several in-laws, cousins, nephews, and nieces also survive her. In lieu of flowers, please send a memorial contribution to Armored Outreach International, 105 Main Street, Sweet Springs, MO, 65351. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 7, 2017, 10:00 a.m. at Stonegate North Venue, 6000 W. Wadley in Midland. Graveside service will follow at 4:00 p.m. in Merkel, Texas at Rosehill Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of American Heritage.
