Michael David Lee Short

Michael David Lee Short was born on July 14, 1947 in Mineral Wells, Texas to Dorothy Jackson Short and James Medford Short. He was lovingly raised by his mother Dorothy Jackson Wright and step-dad (Daddy) Kenneth Dale Wright. God called home on Sunday, January 22, 2017 in Midland, Texas, after lengthy health issues. As a child, Mike lived in Littlefield, Texas, Clovis, New Mexico and Cheyenne, Wyoming. He completed high school in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. After high school, Mike was drafted into the U.S. Army on August 24, 1966 and honorably discharged on August 23, 1968. He served our country as a private in the Vietnam war. After being discharged, Mike joined his family in New Orleans, Louisiana, and mostly worked as a salesman. He lived in Indianapolis, Indiana, Mississippi, Houston, Texas, and then moved to the Odessa/Midland area to be near his family again. Mike was a scratch golfer who made a few holes in one in his day. He got his passion for the game from his daddy who was a PGA professional. He loved to read, which he picked up from his mama. Mike also loved to BBQ, and enjoyed being outside observing nature and God's creatures. Preceding him in death were his parents, Kenneth and Dorothy Wright. He is survived by his two sons, Michael Parrish Short and Michael David Lee Short, Jr. By his brothers, Beau Wright (wife, Mary Jane) of Odessa, and Stacy Wright of Midland; two sisters, Sidney Adams of Odessa and Keni Wright of San Antonio. Aunts and uncles , Bessie Lee and Lester Hanks of Grapevine, Max Wright of Adams, OK, Arlie Lewis of Amarillo, Carolyn Jackson of Littlefield and Faye Wright of Baton Rouge, LA. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and even great, great nieces and nephews. Last but not least, his best friend, Kathleen Phillips. God sent us an angel who is Kathy. We want to thank her for all she has done for Mike and the many years she took care of his needs and looked after him, being there when we couldn't. We love you! A viewing will be held on Friday, January 27, 2017 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at American Heritage Chapel. A graveside service will be held following the viewing at 2:00 p.m. at American Heritage Cemetery, officiated by Preacher Terry Tamplen of First United Methodist Church. Arrangements are entrusted to American Heritage.
