Melvin Gene Clark

With love and gratitude, we honor the life of Melvin Gene Clark, 95, of Midland, Texas, who passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025, at Legacy Ranch Alzheimer's Special Care Center. Born on September 28, 1929, in Vowells Mill, Louisiana, to Americus Vespucious and Delia Mae Clark, Melvin lived a life rich with service, dedication, and unwavering love for his family. Melvin proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, seeking to see the world, though he spent much of his service in Pyote, Texas. Afterward, he devoted nearly 60 years as a math teacher, inspiring students at the junior high, high school, and college levels, teaching at Midland College and Odessa College later in his career. His impact on generations of students is immeasurable. Summers saw Melvin on the road, where he logged over 100,000 miles without a ticket, driving for Dr. Pepper, Groendyke Transport, and other companies. His love for the open road also led him to drive a school bus and ensure every school sporting event ran smoothly by keeping time on the clock. An avid hunter and fisherman, Melvin cherished the outdoors, but his greatest joy was always family. His wisdom, humor, and quiet strength created a foundation of love that will be felt for generations to come. Melvin is survived by his four children, Toni Holland (Bob) of Birmingham, AL, Chet Winn Clark (Tammy) of Seminole, TX, Michelle Marie Colson (James), and Rachael Marie Stout of Midland, TX; eight grandchildren, Ian Gage (Deborah), Andrew Gage (Rhinnon), Jonathan Gage (Kristin), Aaron Burrell, Mandy Danley (Todd), Josh Clark (Crystal), Eric Clark (Melissa), and Monica Booth; ten great-grandchildren; and his brother, Hulen Clark. He is reunited in heaven with his beloved wife, Donna Marie Clark; his daughter, Rhonda Adamson (survived by son-in-law Glenn Adamson); and eight siblings. Melvin's dedication to education, his love for adventure, and his deep devotion to family will never be forgotten. His legacy lives on in the lives of those he touched, and he will be dearly missed. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral at 1:00 PM. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM at American Heritage Funeral Home; interment immediately following in American Heritage Cemetery.
