Mary Frances Gronow

Mary 'Frances' Gronow, 78, died peacefully at her home August 11, 2017 in Midland, Texas, surrounded by loved ones. She is survived by her loving husband, Charles of Midland. She was a devoted mother to her daughters, Cindy (Troy) Bowden of Electra, Texas, Lynda (Vondell) Woolfolk of Comanche, Texas; son, Bryan (Rhonda) Kelley of Athens, Texas, and daughter, Elizabeth (Skipper) Boyd of Gardendale, Texas. Her legacy lives on in her grandchildren: Andrea (Keith) Ketchersid, Brandace (Ryan) Hardy, Stephen Bowden, Kellen (Amy) Woolfolk, Taylor (Brandon) Hall, Bailey (Ky) Reagan, Jessica (Kaine) Cleveland, Sarah Litrell, Diamond Dusang, Desiree Dusang, Julie Kelley, Bobby Kelley, Derek Daugherty and 17 great-grandchildren, who knew her affectionally as Grandma/G.G. She is also survived by brothers, Doug (Jeanette) Smith and Eddie (Shari) Smith both of Wichita Falls, Texas; and three nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and precious daughter, Sherri Kay Mayberry. Frances was born May 20, 1939 to Edwin K. and Olene B. Smith in Elmer, Oklahoma. She graduated from Duncan Senior High School in Duncan, Oklahoma. After graduation, she moved to Wichita Falls, Texas and later to Vernon, Texas where she was employed with Vernon Junior College. In 1976, she and Charles married and moved to Midland, TX. There, she assumed positions as a production analyst with several oil companies. She retired in May 2017 after working at Targa Resources for five years. One of her greatest pleasures was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved traveling and going to casinos and winning at slots, especially keno. Frances was an avid fisherman like her dad. Frances and Charles traveled to Red River, New Mexico as often as they could and fished the steam and lakes. Frances enjoyed her three "B's" - bingo, bunko, and bowling. Frances was a bingo player through and through. She was very lucky and everyone around her knew it. She played monthly bunko with her friends and loved the fellowship. 2017 Marked her 46th consecutive State Bowling Tournament participation. In 2015 her team succeeded in winning 1st place in their division. A celebration of life memorial service will be held Friday, August 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Crestview Baptist Church, 301 N. Loop 250 W. Midland, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Hospice of Midland, 911 W. Texas Avenue, Midland, TX 79701. The family would like to thank Hospice of Midland and Sherrie at MMH Oncology floor for their kind and gentle care.
