June Kimmell

June Kimmell, age 71, passed away at her home on December 31, 2025. June was born on June 10, 1954, in Bakersfield, California to Tommy and Johnnie Lois Stembridge. She moved to Texas at a young age and came to call Midland and Odessa her home. At age 14, she was adopted, and at 18, she married Ike McQuistion. The following year, she gave birth to her son, whom she fondly referred to as "the fat 10-pound baby that tried to kill me." At 44 she met her forever husband Gaylon Kimmell. June was preceded in death by seven siblings: Ray Davis, Joe Stembridge, Donnie Stembridge, Cecil Stembridge, Marie Stembridge, Leroy Stembridge, and Henry Stembridge. She often joked that her favorite brother was whichever one she happened to be talking to at the time. She is survived by her loving husband of many years, Gaylon Kimmell, and the entire McQuistion clan: her son, Kevin McQuistion, affectionally known as "SON" and his wife, Susie McQuistion; her granddaughter, Halie Teal, affectionally known as "Halie Bug" and her husband, Andrew Teal, along with their three children, Olivianne, Landon, and Vaeda-Mae; and her grandson, Zachary McQuistion, affectionally known as "Zachary Dacary Dot" and his wife, Landri McQuistion, along with their two children, Ella and Connor. Throughout her life, June held many roles - from working on a road crew to her true passion as a caregiver for the elderly - but her most cherished and important role was being a devoted mother, Granny, and Nana to her family. She went by many names: Granny to grandkids, Nana to her great grandkids, and lovingly called "Mean Ol' Woman" by her son. June will be remembered most for her deep desire to be surrounded by family. She always wanted to be near her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her joy and pride in the family she built knew no bounds. To know June was to know a one-of-a-kind individual who spoke her mind freely - most often with love. She shared her affection generously, without expectation. She never met a stranger, only a potential friend, no matter the time or place. June will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, January the 14th, 2026 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by a celebration of June's life. A small outdoor reception is planned after the celebration of life. The viewing, celebration of life, and reception will take place at: American Heritage Funeral Home 4100 N. FM 1788, Midland, Texas. The family kindly requests that you wear bright colors in honor of June's vibrant spirit and come prepared to share your favorite story or memory of her.
