John David Gentry

John David Gentry joined Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, November 14, 2011. John was born on August 7, 1935, to Joseph Andrew Gentry and Billie Ara (LaFever) Gentry of Laredo, TX. He was raised in Kerrville, Texas, graduated from Tivy High School in 1953. He served during the Korean War in the American Air Force in 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1958. He moved to Midland, Texas in 1960 and started working in the United States Postal Service. He worked his way up in the post office to Training Technician. He continued to work there until his retirement in 2006, having worked 46 years. He married Linda Faye Vasbinder of Midland, Texas in 1964; who lovingly took care of him in his last few years at home. John followed the Lord in baptism in 1965 and remained a member of the Church of Christ throughout his life. John enjoyed sports of all kinds, participating in a long standing bowling league achieving many trophies for his accomplishments. He religiously played tennis with his friends on the weekends. John loved to exercise and run to keep himself in good condition. His grandchildren had a special place in his life as he was sure to attend as many functions, recitals and sporting events as possible. He was an encouragement to them all. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by three children: John Charles Gentry of Lubbock, Texas, JoAnne Christine Enderson of Midland, Texas and Robert Justin Gentry of Crowley, Texas. He was blessed to have five grandchildren: Angelee Faye Gentry of Georgia, Caitlyn Nicole Enderson, Logan Alan Enderson, Justin Dean Enderson and Holdyn Bryce Enderson of Midland, Texas and one expected in April of 2012 and one great granddaughter Skyler Dawn of Georgia. He is also survived by his sister Barbara Jo Hall and spouse of Boerne, Texas. He was preceded in death by both parents and two infants Emily Faith Gentry and Jason David Gentry.
