Bobbie Wynell Orr

Bobbie Wynell Orr age 88 of Odessa, Texas died peacefully in her home on Monday, November 7 th , 2022. Bobbie was born in Cisco, Texas to Charlie and Zelma Hurley on March 6th, 1934. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1952, and then worked at Lester’s Department Store in downtown Odessa as well as Mildred’s Fine Gifts. She took secretarial and accounting courses at Odessa College and later became a Kelly girl doing assorted administrative jobs. Bobbie married Tommy Daniel Orr on June 18th, 1953 in a beautiful garden wedding held at the home of her uncle and Aunt Hugh and Ruby Weathersby. Bobbie and Tommy celebrated 54 years together. Bobbie was a Navy wife and happily followed Tommy wherever the Navy sent him. She was a devoted wife and mother. Her artistic flair was evident in the many special projects she undertook for her family. A doll cake and Raggedy Ann overalls for Tamie, a hand-painted kite and ladybug cake for Teresa, a handmade vest and cherry-o cream-o pie for Jim, and for the love of her life she made western shirts and chocolate meringue pie for Tommy. Bobbie was an excellent cook and enjoyed swapping recipes and trying new cuisine. Her chocolate meringue pie was legendary, her chicken fried steak was perfection, and her homemade chili always drew an eager crowd. Thanksgiving will never be the same without her perfect light and flaky pie crusts! Alzheimer’s took her away from her family a little more each day; however, she never lost her wit and grace. Bobbie loved to tell stories of the Navy life and her childhood. Everyone who came to her house was offered a dance lesson, whether music was playing or not. For the last 15 years, daughter Teresa was her primary caregiver, providing love and support during that difficult time, facing each day with laughter and tears and an occasional, “Bobbie, what are you doing?” Bobbie was preceded in death by her husband Tommy, son Ronald James [Jim} Orr, granddaughter Stefanie Lynn Armstrong, parents Charles Marion and Zelma Lora Hurley, Brother Billy Eugene Hurley and best friend Laverne Clark. Bobbie is survived by her children, Tamie Armstrong and son-in-law John of Amarillo, Texas, and Teresa Orr of Odessa, Texas; her grandchildren, Steven Armstrong of Midland, Texas, Daniel Sanders (Orr) of Noblesville, Indiana; granddaughter, Melissa Sanders (Orr) of Columbia; her great-grandchildren, Ruby Sanders (Orr), and Tommy Sanders (Orr). Graveside service will be held at 11 am on November 29 th , 2022 at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa, Texas with Bishop Kurt Coombs presiding. The family wishes to thank Nichole Taliaferro and staff from Angel Care Hospice of Midland, Texas for their exceptional care of Bobbie during these last difficult months.
