Shirley Marie Kinsey Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Shirley Marie Kinsey, 78, of Odessa, Texas has gone on to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 5, 2022 after a brief battle with cancer. It is a sad time for us here on earth, but a joyous occasion in heaven where she is celebrating a family reunion with her eldest son, her parents, grandparents, and many other relatives and friends dearly missed yet never forgotten. Shirley was born on June 23, 1943 to Lowell Crumpton and Jewel Pruitt in Dallas, Texas. How did she get to Odessa? Like many, her daddy worked in the oilfield so the family moved here when she was in grade school. She attended Odessa College, completed cosmetology school and CNA training. Shirley worked for West Texas Answering Service, drove a school bus, and was a CNA for many years before retiring. Shirley is preceded in death by her favorite child, Paul Hammon. (He really is the best kid of the group; this is the one thing the other kids don't argue about.) Her surviving children are, Cary Hammon, David Hammon, Tommy Kinsey and Mitzi Matthews. Also surviving is her loyal dog and best friend Niki, who has never left her side throughout. Not only has she been a fierce single mother of 5, Shirley is a doting grandmother to 12 and great grandmother to 10. Her greatest joy has always been spending time with family and helping others. She is a crafter who has crocheted beautiful pieces of art and painted ceramics, she plays piano and is a bird watcher who has collected numerous bird figurines. She is a huge Elvis fan, so as you read this turn up some How Great Thou Art and know that she is singing along. Arrangements have been entrusted to American Heritage Funeral Home and services will be held privately, per her request. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Hospice of Midland or the American Cancer Society. Our hearts overflow with sincere appreciation for all who expressed their love and sympathy in so many comforting ways during this difficult time.
